Interior design

Tailored interior design for homes, businesses and offices, balancing function with timeless elegance.

Overview

Good interior design starts with how you live or work in a space, not with a mood board. We plan the room around you first, then choose the materials, furniture and finishes that make it feel complete.

Our design work blends classic and contemporary thinking. A space should feel current on the day it is finished and still feel right in ten years, so we lean towards quality materials and considered proportions rather than passing trends.

Because Top Deck also makes and installs kitchens, window treatments, upholstery and flooring, the design you approve is the design that gets built. There is no hand-off between a designer and a separate set of contractors who interpret it differently.

Working from our showroom in Alton, Richards Bay, we design for homes and businesses throughout Zululand and beyond, with projects in every province. On the coast, the climate shapes our choices: humidity, salt air and strong light all affect which fabrics, finishes and timbers will hold up.

What the design stage covers

Every project starts with a consultation. The scope of design work, and what we then make, supply and install, is set out in your quotation.

  • Consultation and brief

An on-site visit to understand how the space is used, what isn’t working and what you want it to become.

  • Layout

How the room is arranged: furniture placement, circulation and where storage and lighting should go.

  • Boards, fabrics and finishes

Materials chosen with samples in hand, so colours and textures are judged in real light.

  • Scope and quotation

A clear statement of what will be made, supplied and installed, so there are no surprises later.

Questions

Do you work on single rooms or only whole homes?

Both. Some clients start with one room and continue from there; others want the whole home or office designed together. We'll recommend a scope after the first consultation.

Can you work with furniture I already own?

Yes. We often design around pieces with history or value, and can reupholster existing furniture so it belongs in the new scheme.

Do you design for businesses as well as homes?

Yes. We design offices, reception areas and other commercial spaces as well as private homes.

How do we start?

Send us a short project enquiry or call the studio. We'll arrange a consultation, either at your property or at our Richards Bay showroom.

Planning a room or a whole home?

Tell us which spaces you’re thinking about and how you use them. We’ll arrange a consultation.
